French Husband went to Malaysia with a friend. They went trekking in the jungle and exploring the sun on deserted islands.
When Sacha saw the back pack that Yann was taking for his two week trek, one that was smaller than his school bag, he was horrified!
"Papa, how many underwear did you pack?"
"You do not want to know."
"Papa, how many socks do you have with you?"
"The pair on my feet."
"Oh man! When you come home, I pity the person you sit next to on the plane!
Your french husband packs like my french husband.

I've read that the French are very BIG on trekking. I suppose it's about getting outside and being at one with nature etc...Of course now a days you can take your ipod, computer, cell, a whole mess of urban stuff with you. Didn't a couple get lost in the Himalayan mountains and they text-messaged friends in London and were rescued! Extra underpants are the least of it :)

You son is too cute! That island looks like a wonderful place to holiday.
Posted by: cruststation | 26 April 2006 at 12:28 PM
Do you think French Husband would talk to Scottish Wife? Her idea of travelling light is to only need a trailer.
Posted by: Lee | 26 April 2006 at 01:34 PM
This had me laughing out loud! Your son is something else.
That trek definitely sounds like a guy thing for sure.

Such an example that French Husband sets - Live life the fullest, and don't worry about extraneous bits and pieces... Love it!

P.S. I hope your not feeling poorly anymore Corey! Can you cope with Yann going away for two weeks btw?
Posted by: Carol | 26 April 2006 at 04:13 PM
Heehee, I pity the person who has to wash his laundry when he gets home.
Great exchange between father and son.

french husband is a manly man !
Posted by: diana | 26 April 2006 at 04:24 PM
This is so marvelous Corey. And your son is so funny. How on the mark he is. Of course, French Hubby will likely find a shower before getting on a plane to fly home.
My dear friend Francine travels all over the world, the more remote the better. Generally she has little more with her than a small frameless backpack. And mind you, Phaa is in her mid-60s! What adventurers they are.

This story made me laugh, I love your stories Corey! :)
Posted by: kathleen | 26 April 2006 at 04:38 PM
That was just too funny! I could hear Sacha saying that and it sounded much like something one of my own children would say!
In this world, we all tend to pack too much and it is the 'stuff' we accumulate that can weigh heavy, and keep us tied down, can't it?
Good reminder!

Such a young gentleman already, that Sacha!
I hope your husband has a safe and wonderful trip. And I am wishing you brightness and beauty!!
With Love ~ Josephine
