Uxmal, like most of the ancient ruins in Mexico, has many things in common one of them being steps. Uxmal spreads out over one hundred and fifty acres. The acres are covered with amazing ruins, most of them with steps.
When traveling with the two that I am traveling with, the steps are, "The fun part."
How many steps can one do before one more step makes you want to scream.
And those two in sandals.
Ding Dongs hello?
The thing with steps is that whatever goes up must come down.
Oddly enough going up is easier than going down.
Especially when the steps are about the size of slice of bread.
After hours of walking around, hiking up and down, admiring Uxmal, I stepped out on this last set of steps and took to my zoom lens to show me its beauty.
"I'll take photos, you two go ahead," was the excuse I offered."
Thankfully they loved the idea.
I think Chelsea was asking her dad if he would carry her.
About twenty years ago when we were hiking in the Pyrenees, French Husband carried both Chelsea and Sacha down the hill.... we had hiked a little too far that day... I wished he could have carried me too.
His back has never been the same since.
It wasn't long before the two of them were racing... or showing off in the ungodly heat.
I sat back in the shade and thought to myself, "Knock yourselves out! You two are nuts!"
But I couldn't help noticing that they were both laughing.
Happy together. Even in the heat, on the millionth step.
Dad helps daughter.
Or was she helping him?
What I do know is that I admired the two of them holding hands.
I almost wanted to be by their side...
Then I thought of how many steps it would have taken to get there.
I took a photo instead.
The ruins are gonna ruin me.
But at least the daughter and her father are happy and that makes me happy...
and a cold beer helps too.
