Garden Tour
My Mother's garden theater, have your smile ready! Give her a shovel, a broom, a hose, throw in an hammer, some nails, a few acres...off she goes in her house dress and sandals, she is a happy set designer gardener.
Planting a scene while working up a sweat, is her idea of relaxation. She is up before six ready to roll, claiming the day is flying by, as she races around with a multitude of projects up her sleeves. Mom is a wonder woman from the get-go!
Nothing is thrown away, everything has a thousand ways to be useful. Doll house on a chair has a fancy foundation, or a good place to sit! Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary? Or at least re-invented!
I wonder what Feng Shui would say about birdhouses that are climbing up a red ladder, with a Tarzan rope to help them stay put..note, this is the entry to my parent's home!
A new way to take an herb bath, with a green splash! In the front yard no less.
Flower bed. With ground cover. Fertile bed.
In my Mother's garden ideas sprout, new life buds in old worn out things, anything is a possible planter if it can hold water, dirt, and a few seedlings! There isn't reason to her rhyme, nothing is written in the script, she doesn't bury her imagination but lets it grow amongst the evergreen.
Tools without hang ups for hanging around.
...Oh! The flower show is for another day!
photos: Sunday afternoon garden theatre with front row seats, my Mother's garden uncovered!

This made me laugh first, and then feel really inspired. Thank you. It's like a jolt of spring in the snow!

Your mom is an artist, a Joseph Cornell in the garden! Love that she's planted a succulent and rosemary (?) in the old wooden dollhouse. It reminds me of abandoned farmhouses with moss growing on the front porch and ivy climbing up the walls.

You're right, gardening is really set designing in the open air. Your mom seems to have a fabulous eye for beauty, a green thumb and a great sense of humor too!

I thought of your mom today when a neighbor gifted us with some unusual cast-offs in way of thanking us for helping track down her dog (escapee for a brief time)... I wondered just what your mom might do with a couple of rusty rail nails (huge) and beautiful round boxes that number 12 and stack neating inside each other. I love getting surprises like that on the doorstep and am encouraged to find them all unique homes as your mom has done.

Pretty pictures! For 15 years my parents lived in a beautiful house above La Croix-Valmer in the Var & my father's joy was maintaining the garden. Not quite as imaginatively as this..!
